Begin with the question

How should several days in Beijing fit together, rather than how much can be fitted into them?

The real work is deciding what should form the spine, which days need more space, what should connect, and what is better left open. The aim is not to complete Beijing. It is to leave with a clear and personal understanding of it.

A shaded hutong street in everyday Beijing

Your Beijing stay begins when you land.

I meet you personally at the airport and travel with you into the city. It is our first conversation: a chance to answer the practical questions that appear on arrival and confirm whether the plan still suits the people who have actually arrived.

A city understood at different scales.

01

Structure and history

Palaces, gates, axes, temples, objects, and old streets reveal how Beijing was organised, and how earlier systems still shape the city people move through today.

02

Neighborhoods and ordinary life

Housing, transport, meals, public space, local routines, and the edges between old and new make present-day Beijing more understandable.

03

Landscape and distance

The Great Wall, mountains, reservoirs, villages, and roads beyond the centre change the scale of the city and reveal what Beijing was built beside, supplied by, and protected from.

One host. The right specialist when it matters.

I remain your host throughout the stay. When a place such as the Forbidden City benefits from deeper historical or architectural interpretation, a licensed English-speaking specialist may join us for that focused part of the day. I continue to shape the pace and connect that depth to the wider Beijing story. Any specialist arrangement and cost will be made clear before the stay is confirmed.

Continuity does not mean repeating the same kind of day.

01

Days with depth

A palace, temple, or architectural question may deserve the strongest attention of the stay and the right specialist for part of the day.

02

Days with distance

A Great Wall or mountain day asks for an earlier start, a private vehicle, realistic walking, and enough time for the landscape to set the pace.

03

Days with room

A neighborhood, a considered meal, an evening walk, or time left open can be as important as another monument.

Not every meaningful hour needs another destination.

First visit. Four nights. Two curious travelers interested in food, everyday life, and understanding how Beijing fits together.

Central question
How can imperial Beijing, present-day neighborhoods, and the landscape beyond the city become one connected stay?
Keep
A selective imperial day, one slower look at everyday Beijing, a full day beyond the city, and enough space for meals and conversation.
Leave out
Several major monuments on consecutive days simply because they appear on a standard first-time itinerary.
Why
The days feel different, but each reveals another layer of how Beijing was built, lived in, and understood.

It may not suit you

If your priority is the lowest-priced standard tour, the maximum number of famous attractions, a hotel-and-flight package, or an on-call concierge throughout your stay.

Portrait of Lao Wang

One person to connect the days.

I was born and raised in Beijing. Knowing the city does not mean trying to show all of it. It means recognising which place deserves the morning, when a meal should become the centre of the day, and when the right decision is to stop adding things.

Tell me where it begins.

Share your dates, who is travelling, what draws your attention, how you like to move, and what would make the stay feel wrong. I will reply personally with a short Design Note explaining where I would begin, what deserves priority, how the days might connect, and what I would deliberately leave out.
